Globally, 1 in 3 women (or 30%) have been subjected to either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime.
The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) reported that on a typical day, domestic violence hotlines nationwide receive over 20,000 calls, and the majority of these are from women seeking assistance and guidance to escape abusive situations.
72% of detected trafficking victims globally are women and girls, with the majority trafficked for sexual exploitation.
When I first reached out to HERS, I felt trapped, having endured a decade-long abusive relationship. With my two children and no personal finances, the idea of leaving seemed like an insurmountable challenge. But HERS offered me a safe haven. Through their housing program, I found a sanctuary for my family. Their education services gave me the skills I desperately needed, and today, not only do I hold a steady job, but I’m also pursuing higher studies. HERS gifted me the strength to reclaim my life. Today, I stand tall, not just for myself but for my children.
I was young, filled with dreams of teaching children, when I was deceived by a false job opportunity and thrust into the world of human trafficking. Lost and petrified in a foreign country, I thought my dreams were forever crushed. It was HERS, through one of their international partners, that became my beacon of hope. With their consouling, I faced my past, and their education program allowed me to chase my dream once again. Today, I am a teacher, cherished by my community. Thanks to HERS, I learned that it’s never too late to dream and rise again.
